How important is the shape when buying sleeping bags?

When buying sleeping bags, the shape is always a significant factor. There are mainly two shapes of sleeping bags: mummy shaped bags and rectangular shaped bags. As their names suggest, mummy sleeping bags are shaped like a mummy case and rectangular bags are obviously in the shape of a rectangle. While mummy bags are compact and perfect for winter camping, rectangular bags give you more space and ventilation, which are ideal if you are going to camp in hot weather for hot weather. Knowing what kind of sleeper you are and what kind of weather you will be camping in will help you decide which kind of sleeping bag is more appropriate for you.
